Clear Lake Boasts a Great Reputation!

Moving to Houston is easy, as there are so many places to choose from—and so many economies. In the master-planned community of Clear Lake, the economy of the area galvanized a community to spring up around it.

The Clear Lake sphere is adjacent to the Johnson Space Center and is the second-largest master-planned community in the Greater Houston area behind Kingwood. As a result of the proximity to the pioneering space center, the area boasts a high concentration of engineers, with plenty of aerospace and petrochemical companies.

According to the Clear Lake City Community Association (CLCCA), Humble Oil (later ExxonMobil) had a hand in shaping the neighborhoods.  In 1963, the entity formed the CCLA to meet the residential development needs of the Johnson Space Center, newly erected in the area, and the employees and contiguous businesses that would soon follow suit.

Nevertheless, the Houston Chronicle tells us that Clear Lake area wasn’t technically part of Houston until parts of it (the parts that qualified as Houston’s Extra-Territorial Jurisdiction) were annexed in 1977. As part of the Greater Houston area, the library of Clear Lake enjoys administration from the Harris County Public Library and is funded in part by the Houston Public Library. The Sylvan Rodriguez Park, opened in 2001, is also operated by the City of Houston.

Clear Lake also has its own culture and art organizations like the Bay Area Houston Ballet and Theatre group which stages dance performances and musicals, The Clear Lake Symphony, and the Arts Alliance at Clear Lake, a group of over 50 area arts organizations that regularly schedules arts exhibits like musical performances and art showcases. This master-planned neighborhood is a master at having it all!
