With Christmas fast-approaching, we’ve got a great event where you can also get some holiday shopping done!
Pop Shop Houston, hosted by that Montrose staple Leopard Lounge & Pavement Clothing (formerly called Taxi Taxi) at Westheimer and Dunlavy and sponsored by Pop Shops of America, this FREE event is jam-packed full of interesting vendors and cool stuff to do.
Pop Shop Houston is more than just a haven for resale: it’s a market for art, fashion, music, hand-made goods and interesting vendors (which, let’s face it, is half the charm of going to a market). Classic vinyl, spun by ‘Reverberation DJ’s, sets a fun, funky atmosphere with classic throwbacks to get you in the mood for vintage or modern mixes to go with your new hand made goods or fresh made juice.
In fact, food trucks like H-Town strEATs and Juice Girl are always on site to make fresh eats and freshly blended juices for your edifying consumption at each event. New food trucks serve crowds every month! There’s also a free DIY workshop each shop (which happens every second Sunday of the month)—this past Pop Shop had Papel Picado (or perforated paper) and Day of the Dead mask DIY’s, perfect to bring the kids or just to find something cool to make for your next party.
But, don’t fret even if shopping isn’t your thing! There’s also craft beer tasting (for adults) hosted by Houston’s own Karbach Brewing Co., free crafting activities for kids, and a make-your-own terrarium bar has been known to pop up in the past! Even handmade bath products can be found here.
Do you have an idea? Are you crafty? You can apply to be part of the Pop Shop Houston monthly event and sell your wares—vintage clothes, handmade jams, even on-the-spot poetry if that’s your talent—all kinds of goods can be peddled here! The application is on the Pop Shops of America website. Support local independent businesses—or be part of it!
Black Friday got you down? Pop Shop Houston is having an extended event from the 28th to the 30th of November so you can beat the ridiculous lines and generic gifts. Plus, with craft beer tasting it’s bound to be more fun! Come on out!
