The Goodson Grizzlies are ready to tackle their academic prey! In Cypress-Fairbanks ISD, Goodson Middle School shines and sets a standard that ROCKs—that is to say, follows the motto of Respect, being On-task, Choosing wisely and being Kind.
If we’re just looking at just CFISD’s report card, Goodson is an exemplary school. If it were a student, it would be one of its own—high-achieving and ambitious. CFISD’s “Overall Performance” was considered exemplary, as were the specific areas of Fine Arts, Gym Class, Parental Involvement, 21st Century Workforce Development, and Education for GT (Gifted and Talented) Students. In their Languages, Digital Learning and Dropout Prevention areas, they were “Recognized.” It would seem that this report speaks for itself.
However, taking a closer look at Goodson Middle School’s achievements in the past year just help to paint the solid gold picture their district had begun. The school’s mission statement is, put simply, to bring meaningful education to its students—by engaging, relating and effectively communicating. It’s not quite how they put it, but it’s clear that Goodson’s academic programs are designed to challenge middle schoolers and put them on a path to being intelligent, competent, confident young adults.
And, as an added bonus, the better job students are doing, the more “Bear Bucks” they get—a reward system designed to make high-achieving students even more motivated. It’s a replacement for “Grizzly Gold,” a similar program, but without the cute tongue-in-cheek joke behind it.
STAAR tests this last year were excellent—the students met the STAAR state standards in all subjects and in at least 3 subjects, they were in the top 90% and up! Students in Orchestra, Band, and Choir won hundreds of accolades this year alone, three athletics extracurriculars were district champions, and 100% of the teaching staff is considered “Highly Qualified” with an above average skill set—even in the few brand new teachers Goodson saw this past year.
One thing is clear—if Goodson Middle School were a student at Goodson, it’d be rolling in the Bear Bucks!
