River Oaks is one of Houston’s most famous and most reputable neighborhoods. In fact, River Oaks is the wealthiest and most expensive community in the state, boasting home values that range from 1 to 20 million dollars.
But the price tag isn’t the only cause for wonder: the neighborhood was established by William and Michael Hogg, sons of Governor Jim Hogg and brothers to the illustrious Ima Hogg, in the 1920s. This area has been the locale for Houston’s gentry since then, and pop culture has followed. Diversity is expanding, too, though the demographics are still nearly 80% white. Family size is also lower though the houses are supersized (2.7 people per family to Houston’s average of 3.4)
